Final checks before a wingsuit jump in the Alps

Hi, I’m Fíona Jansen, Wingsuit skydiver, BASE jumper, and full-time adventure addict. For the last 6 years, my life has revolved around flight, whether it’s leaping off cliffs in the Alps or coaching wingsuit students across Australia.

A year ago, I traded my engineering career and beachside lifestyle for snow-capped peaks and a dream job as Flight Master at the world’s first Indoor Wingsuit Tunnel in Stockholm, Sweden. These days, I spend my working hours flying indoors for 1.5 hours a day, and my time off skydiving, BASE jumping and exploring Sweden’s vast outdoor playground.

I live outside. My gear has to keep up. That’s why I partnered with Gatorz Eyewear in 2024 and haven’t looked back.

Gatorz Sunglasses: A BASE Jumping Essential

When I prep for a BASE jump, a few things are non-negotiable. My rig, helmet, knee pads, poles, and my Gatorz sunglasses.

Whether I’m scaling a trail to a remote exit point or diving off a cliff face into the valley below, I need gear that delivers reliability, protection, and performance. My go-to Gatorz styles are the Havok and Delta sunglasses, both offering critical features that elevate my jump experience.

Here’s why Gatorz have earned a permanent place in my kit

  • Wide peripheral vision for spotting other jumpers and obstacles during freefall
  • Serious wind protection with large lenses on the Havok
  • Interchangeable lenses to adapt to light conditions in the mountains
  • Helmet-compatible fit thanks to narrow frame technology
  • Adjustable comfort with flexible frames and custom nose pads
  • Durability that handles rough landings, cold, altitude, and dust

I’ve tried countless pairs of sunglasses across hundreds of jumps. Most don’t make it past the first outing. Gatorz performs flawlessly every time.

BASE jumping isn’t the only place I put my Gatorz to the test. In wingsuit skydiving, precision and safety go hand in hand and your vision plays a huge part in that.

Gatorz sunglasses give me the edge with features that are engineered for altitude.

  • Optimised Polarized Technology cuts glare without interfering with my digital altimeter
  • Impact resistance in both the frames and lenses protects me in case of a collision
  • Low profile fit that works perfectly with my helmet and suit

Whether it’s a tunnel session, an alpine hike to a jump site, or a vertical freefall through clouds, Gatorz is with me.

Why Gatorz are my go-to gear

As someone who’s flown through storm clouds, hiked through snow to reach the edge of a cliff, and pulled chute after chute in all conditions, I’ve learned not to compromise on gear. Gatorz sunglasses aren’t just eyewear. They’re a tool I trust with my vision and safety every day.

If you live life at full speed or just want sunglasses that won’t let you down, give Gatorz a go. You’ll see why I never jump without them.
